It was a memorable event for the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research, ISSER, when two of its students received awards at the Vice-Chancellor’s Ceremony in Honour of Academic Award Winners for 2017/2018. The two are: Ms. Hamdiyah Alhassan who received the prize for the Overall Best Graduating PhD in Development Studies Student and Ms. Rahamatu Abukari who got the Overall Best Graduating MA Development Studies Student. This ceremony was held at the Great Hall, University of Ghana on Friday, 1st March, 2019.
The awards were presented by Ms. Eccles Andoh, Administrative Secretary/Assistant Registrar of ISSER.
In her address, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, Registrar, University of Ghana stated that the University recognizes the brightest and best and applauds hard work of its students. She commended sponsors for buying into the University’s vision to be a first class research institution.
Prof Samuel Agyei Mensah, Provost of the College of Humanities congratulated the awardees and asked them to demonstrate the core values of the university in their endeavours. He said the awards should motivate them to always strive for excellence and be worthy ambassadors of the University of Ghana. While commending the sponsors for their dedication, he disclosed that 11 new sponsors have come on board, bringing the total of sponsors to 142. He pointed out that as the university grows in number many more sponsors may have to sign up.
Other dignitaries present were Pro Vice-Chancellor ORID, Prof Francis Dodoo, who represented the Vice-Chancellor; Acting Provost, College of Education, Prof Michael Tagoe; and Provost, College of Basic and Applied Science, Prof Daniel Kwadwo Asiedu.
