A group of four high ranking officers in the Ghana Armed Forces who schooled at various times at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic, ISSER, University of Ghana for their Master’s Degrees has donated a computer, projector and projector screen to the Institute in recognition of the services ISSER rendered during their study.

 

They comprised Rear Admiral G. N Biekro, Chief of Naval Staff, Major General S.K. Adeti, Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Asamoah Yeboah, Director General International Peace Support Operation and Lt. Colonel S. Opoku-Agyeman Deputy Director Civilian Establishment.

The items were received by Prof. Felix Asante, Director of ISSER in his office.

Explaining the motivation for the donation, Major General Adeti stated that the four of them discussed amongst themselves what to give back to their alma mater for the depth of knowledge and the sense of cordiality they received which have been of immense help to them in their career.

He said it was to show appreciation and pleasant memories of the teaching staff.

The Chief of Staff summed it up saying “The courses and modules have shaped our minds and what we learned here has been instrumental in our work”.

Responding to the gesture, the Director thanked them on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Provost and the Institute for the donation.

He muted the idea of an ISSER Alumni which will bring together all past students with ISSER offering the space for meetings and a national service person engaged to man the office.

Acknowledging the gesture, Dr. Simon Bawakyillenuo, coordinator of the MA Programme at the Institute, noted it was heartwarming and the donation has come at the right time for use by students.       

In his contribution, Prof. Robert Osei, Vice Dean of Graduate School who is also a Senior Research Fellow at ISSER, noted that the driving force for what they do at ISSER is for students to acquire human capital that makes them to be analytical.

He thanked the group for the gesture saying “We are truly grateful, it is very rewarding”.
